Thurnby Court was a lavish and ostentatious mansion built for a wealthy American, James Alexander Jackson, in the east Leicestershire village of Thurnby. His immense house was completed in about 1870, boasting its own gas works, underground stables, and indoor bathing pool. However it lasted less than 50 years before being demolished by dynamite during the First World War. In its latter years it was the subject of courtroom battles and nearly became a First World War prison camp.

Since the publication of the original book in 2016 a host of new information has been unearthed - so this new edition has an extra 20 pages in the form of an Addendum.

For those who already possess a copy of previous editions it will be possible to download the Addendum separately at a cost of £4.95. Details of how to do this are shown below.

Views of the grandiose Thurnby Court

This is the only comprehensive history of the long vanished Thurnby Court and is published about 100 years after the house disappeared from the landscape for ever. The author has traced the history of both the house and the Jackson family and has woven it into a fascinating story of one of the lesser-known lost country houses of Leicestershire.

Here is some feedback from previous editions of the book:-

"well written and fascinating"
"A super read – I thoroughly enjoyed it"
"well researched and produced"
"very accessible as well as entertaining"

and from Mr Leicester, Leicester Mercury, 15/2/17
“truly fascinating – unputdownable"
